About Virtual Tutoring

We all remember the tribulations when the world was thrust into mandatory remote learning, only a few short years ago. You or your student may have memories of Zoom calls with a sea of faces in tiny grids, lectures projected on too-small screens, and an endless amount of work assigned without proper instruction.

It is understandable to feel trepidation upon considering virtual tutoring. I also struggled, at first. I wondered:

  • would my students still be able to learn effectively?

  • would they still feel nurtured and cared for?

  • would I be able to maintain or improve the quality of my teaching?

In five years of tutoring virtually, the answers have been a resounding yes.

Learn From Home

Students have a multitude of athletics and other extracurriculars after school. Having to drive them to and pick them up from yet another obligation is an unnecessary burden. With online tutoring, students can learn during their off-periods or from the comfort of their own home; all that’s needed is a relatively quiet spot and a device with an internet connection.

Real-time, Personalized Attention

The online whiteboard we work on updates in real-time; students can begin contemplating and processing notes and figures as they’re being drawn - no more awkward waiting and passing papers back and forth. I can track the student’s cursor to see where they are looking and drawing, allowing me to give them my full attention at all times.

Interactive Whiteboard Learning

Students can annotate their notes on the virtual whiteboard or draw figures and work problems. Erasing errors is no longer messy. Easy access to colors means I can draw clearer and more impactful diagrams. With a persistent whiteboard, they can log back in and review their notes from our session anywhere, anytime.

Asynchronous Communication

In addition to being free VoIP software, the Discord app allows students to contact me between sessions and keep me updated as to what their class is covering. File upload features make sending files of their assignments or pictures of their homework for my review a straightforward process. Students can ask me quick questions via the text chat.

I understand that you or your student may have doubts about the efficacy of virtual tutoring. In my experience, most students adapt just fine and end up preferring the online format.

If your student is on the fence, I invite them to join me for a risk-free introductory session. If they decide afterward that virtual tutoring is not for them, I am happy to provide a full refund of the session, no questions asked.
